COTA Board of Directors Election 2013


COTA BOD Election 2013 Result

Dear COTA Members and Friends:

The online 2013 COTA Board of Directors election was closed at 12:00 AM (Eastern Time) on December 17th. The election results are downloaded from the E-Voting site. They are as follows:

  • Dr. Yu Zhang has received 63% of the votes;
  • Dr. Haizhong Wang has received 36% of the votes.

Hence, Dr. Yu Zhang is elected as a BOD member and her BOD membership will take effective at the COTA BOD meeting in January 2013.

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Yu Zhang. We wish her a great success in her future endeavors to serve the COTA BOD.

We also thank Dr. Haizhong Wang for his strong enthusiasm and willingness to provide service to COTA.

Also, special gratitude goes to all COTA members who have casted their ballots during their busy schedules.

On-line Election (E-Voting):

COTA continues to take advantage of the on-line E-Voting tool (http://www.ballotbin.com/) to run the BOD election.

The on-line E-Voting system ensures the privacy issues of each voter (e.g., nobody, including the election administrator, will be able to view the voting result and the voter status while the election is still open, and the E-Voting system does not record any information of who voted for whom). For additional information regarding the privacy issues of the on-line E-Voting system, please check the Privacy Stattement and the FAQ for voters at the E-Voting hosting web site.

Voting Guidance:

1. Only active COTA members are legitimate to vote (The active COTA memeber is defined as person who registered and paid the COTA 2012 membership fee by October 1, 2012).
2.  Voting reminding emails will be sent out to each voter before the election strating and ending.
3. Once the election begins, each voter should receive an email notification directly from the E-Voting system with the on-line voting web link. (Please pay attention to your mail box and make sure it will not go to you junk mail box)
4. By clicking the web link, and following the instruction, you can cast your ballot.
5. You can vote any time during the election active time window. The E-Voting system only allows you to vote once.
6. After the election ends, COTA Election Committee will announce the election result as soon as possible.

Introduction:

Dr. Haizhong Wang is an Assistant Professor of Transportation Engineering within the School of Civil and Construction Engineering at Oregon State University, Corvallis, OR. Dr. Wang received M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from University of Massachusetts, Amherst in Applied Mathematics and Civil Engineering (Transportation), and B.S. and M.S. degrees from Hebei University of Technology and Beijing University of Technology, China. Dr. Wang has published over 20 journal and major conference papers. He is very active in serving a wide variety of professional organizations and committees.

Experiences with COTA:

Dr. Wang is an active participant of Chinese communities. He started his COTA involvement as a student back to 2004 when COTA held the annual conference at Beijing Jiaotong University. Through his service as a student board member in 2008 and an associate area editor for CICTP2011 at Nanjing and CICTP2012 Beijing, China, he developed a better understanding about the mission and scope of COTA. He would like to challenge himself to apply the COTA BOD position to better service the COTA community.

Commitments to COTA:

He hope to contribute to COTA in the following manners:
(1) Help promote the registration through advertisement over TRB and other major conferences;
(2) Help organize and contribute significantly in carrying out tasks associated with the Annual TRB symposium and CICTP conference series in China;
(3) Assist president and vice-president to coordinate and synthesize information to communicate with COTA community;
(4) Volunteer to contribute in subcommittee.

"If I were provided an opportunity to serve COTA, I would like to make my contribution through working closely with other members to make every effort to achieve the goals and objectives of COTA. Particularly, I will devote myself to booster the effective communications and collaborations among COTA members and other transportation organizations. "

Introduction:

Dr. Yu Zhang is currently an Assistant Professor in the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department of the University of South Florida. Her research focuses on Aviation Modeling and Analysis, Intermodal Transportation Network Design and Planning, and Sustainable Transportation.

Experiences with COTA:

Dr. Zhang has served as Membership and Public Relation Officer and later General Secretary of COTA in last four years. Dr. Zhang is the COTA Technical Committee Chair for Multimodal and Freight Transportation (including transit, air, rail and water). She has served as an Area Editor/Associate Editor for the annual COTA International Conference for Transportation Professionals (CICTP) in China for the past four years and has been the academic chair of the 2012 COTA Winter Symposium. Dr. Zhang will continue to serve as an Area Editor for the 2013 Conference and is leading the effort to organize the 2013 COTA Winter Symposium.

Commitments to COTA:

She hopes to contribute to COTA in the following manners:
(1) Promote the participation of general members in COTA activities;
(2) Promote the collaboration between COTA and other professional organizations;
(3) Promote the establishment of student chapters and facilitate activities to assist the career development of transportation students and young professionals;
(4) Promote COTA initiatives in technical committee development and sustainability;
(5) Promote the efforts of expanding COTA to other continents.

Call for Nominee

Dear COTA Members:

COTA (Chinese Overseas Transportation Association, formerly NACOTA) has grown immensely over the past several years and has become one of the most influential transportation professional organizations. This year, the Board of Directors (BOD) has ONE vacant position and we are seeking a highly-qualified candidate to fill it in. If you desire to be part of our BOD with strong willingness to contribute to the continuing success and growth of COTA, please send your self-nomination information to the 2013 COTA Board Member Election Committee that consists of the following members:

The deadline for nomination is Thursday, November 15.

Each nominee must obtain endorsements from at least three active COTA Members, including at least one current BOD Member. Each nominee must submit a written statement (no more than 2 pages) stating his or her qualifications and envisioned commitment for the position.

To be an eligible candidate for election, the nominee must be a COTA Member who has paid 2012 Annual membership by October 1, 2012. For other eligibility requirements, please refer to

The nominee will be informed if he or she is eligible and becomes a candidate for the election. The election will be held online between November 26 and December 15, 2012.
