Dr, Jeff Ban, Assistant Professor of the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), won The CUTC/ARTBA New Faculty Award.
The CUTC/ARTBA New Faculty Award is given annually to a tenure-track faculty member in transportation education. The award purpose is to recognize outstanding teaching and research contributions to the transportation field.
Dr. Xuegang (Jeff) Ban is an Assistant Professor of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). He received his B.S. and M.S. in Automobile Engineering from Tsinghua University, and his M.S. in Computer Sciences and Ph.D. in Transportation Engineering from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. His research interests are in Transportation Network Modeling and Simulation, Urban Traffic Modeling and Operations, and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). He teaches courses on transportation and traffic engineering, network analysis, and traffic control and simulation.
He was awarded the 2012 New Faculty Award by the Council of University Transportation Centers (CUTC) and American Road & Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA).
Dr. Xiao Qin, Assistant Professor of the South Dakota State University won the 2012 Best Paper Award presented by TRB Statistical Methods Committee (ABJ 80).
Dr. Qin won the 2012 Best Paper Award presented by TRB Statistical Methods Committee (ABJ 80) for the paper “Quantile Effects of Factors on Crash Distributions”, Transportation Research Record 2279, pp. 40-46. This is his second Best Paper Award and the first time was 2008 for the paper “Variable Selection Issues In Tree-Based Regression Models”.
Dr. Qin, Ph.D., P.E. is an assistant professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the South Dakota State University. Prior to joining SDSU, he managed the Traffic Safety Research Program at the Traffic Operations and Safety (TOPS) Laboratory at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Dr. Qin’s research interests include highway safety, traffic operations, ITS, and GIS applications in Transportation (GIS-T). He received his Ph.D. in the Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Connecticut.
